Troops to Teachers
Troops to Teachers is a U.S. Department of Education and Department of Defense program that helps eligible military personnel begin a new career as teachers in public schools where their skills, knowledge and experience are most needed. Dislocated Worker Program
17 local workforce areas administer the Dislocated Worker Program in Virginia. Eligibility criteria include displaced homemakers and self-employed business people, as well as employees that have been laid off due to plant closings or through no fault of their own. Contact your local WIA one-stop center to find out if you qualify.
Trade Adjustment Assistance (Trade Act)
Trade Act programs are available to assist individuals who have become unemployed as a result of increased imports from or a shift in production to Canada or Mexico. The Virginia Employment Commission administers this program.
Community or School Division Scholarships and Grants
Some communities or school divisions may offer incentives to teach certain subjects or in certain schools by offering scholarships or grants to teachers in training. Check with your local school division or visit your local library for scholarship directories.
