Professional Development in Virginia's Community Colleges

Welcome to the central source for information about the Virginia Community College System Office of Professional Development. Our opportunities are available to the faculty, administration, and staff of the VCCS and are second to none.

This vibrant state-wide program was started in 1992-1993 to promote faculty development in the following areas:

Discipline development - builds knowledge and skills within the academic discipline or professional speciality.
Instructional development - improves classroom teaching, learning, and assessment techniques.
Career development - provides tools for effective personal planning to improve the quality of work and life.
Organizational development - enhances administrative and leadership skills to fulfill the institutional mission of the community college.

I continue to be amazed. Take New Horizons 2009: Access, Excellence and Enlightenment. Nearly 700 participants participated in two very full days of learning, networking and just plain fun. The amount of work involved was enormous and most of it was done by you! The passion, the commitment to student success, the generous spirit and camaraderie in such an endeavor amazes me.

You got fired up! The glow will reach the far areas of the Commonwealth and will last for a very long time. Thank you.
