The Virginia Community College System invites applications and nominations for the Presidency of Lord Fairfax Community College. The college is located in a region that borders West Virginia in the north and west and includes the famous Skyline Drive and the scenic Shenandoah Valley. The area is noted for its majestic natural beauty, its rich history and traditions, and high quality of life. Yet, it is within an hour’s drive of the nation’s capital which affords the community access to a wide range of cultural attractions, shopping and entertainment options.
The citizens of the region value and support education, take pride in the college and play an active role in its community. Continuing its steady growth and success, the College seeks a capable leader who will help chart new directions in a climate of dynamic change to the college’s service area due to changing economies, growth and population diversification. The next president must be able to balance and support the competing complexities of an area that is steeped in tradition but is embracing new opportunities, that is rural yet borders a large metropolitan area, that is careful to preserve its heritage but seeks to take advantage of future possibilities. Fundraising, program evaluation and expansion, and creating collaborative partnerships with the community will be areas of focus for the next few years.
The college has full-service campuses located in Middletown and Warrenton and a center in Luray, Virginia. It serves the counties of Clarke, Fauquier, Frederick, Page, Rappahannock, Shenandoah, and Warren and the city of Winchester. There are nearly 8,000 students for an FTE of 3,180. The operating budget is approximately 25 million and its Educational Foundation has assets over 8 million. The college offers 25 associate degree and 50 certificate programs, serves a variety of businesses with workforce training programs, and has a large number of dual enrollment students.
