William H. Talley, III was appointed to serve a four-year term on the State Board by Governor Tim Kaine on July 1, 2009. Mr. Talley serves as Chairman of the Board of William H. Talley & Sons, Inc., an insurance and financial services business.
Mr. Talley holds the Chartered Life Underwriter, the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter, and the Chartered Financial Consultant designations. He has served on many professional, civic, and charitable boards. Among them are the Board of the Battersea Foundation, Inc., the Associated Risk Managers of Virginia, the ARM Premium Acceptance Corporation, and the Bank of America Tri City Regional Board. Mr. Talley served on the Board of Trustees of Randolph Macon College and was honored with the Alumni Distinguished Service Award in 2007.
A long time supporter of John Tyler Community College, Mr. Tally served on its board for eight years, and held the position of chair from 1999 to 2001. He was instrumental in the establishment of the John Tyler Gateway Campus in Petersburg. He currently serves on the John Tyler Community College Foundation Board.
Mr. Talley was recognized for his service to John Tyler Community College with the presentation of the Chancellor’s Award for Leadership in Philanthropy in 2006. A Commonwealth Legacy Scholarship was endowed in his name at John Tyler Community College that will recognize academic achievement and leadership potential of its recipients. In 2004, John Tyler Community College awarded Mr. Talley with the first Homer C. Eliades Legacy Award.
Mr. Talley resides in Petersburg.
