Virginia's community colleges partner in the public higher education radio program, With Good Reason, produced by the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities. Recent programs featuring community college faculty include:


Little Big Minds (February 3-9)
Marietta McCarty (Piedmont Virginia Community College) has written a new guide book for parents and educators who want to share the enduring ideas of the ‘biggest minds’ of thinkers like Plato, the Dalai Lama, and Martin Luther King Jr. with the ‘littlest minds’ of children.

The Millenials (January 13-19)
Mary Washko (J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College) is part of an innovative program that helps high school dropouts complete their education. She says that, like the character played by Will Smith in the hit movie, "Pursuit of Happiness," these young people face more daily challenges than most of us can imagine.

Virginia Community College foundations award a combined $5.8 million in scholarships in 2008-2009
~Virginia Community College foundations awarded $5.8 million in scholarships to nearly 5,000 students last year.
~The foundations also met their strategic goal of doubling their collective holdings one year early.
~The scholarships are just one way community colleges are ensuring their mission that everyone has the chance to learn and grow
